3 : 1 Aspect Ratio

The world, it turns out, has always been wider than our imagination.

There are places that stay with you. Not in their entirety, of course. Memory is far too selective for that.
Years from now, you won't remember the altitude of the mountain or the name of the river. You'll remember the way the light briefly found its way through the clouds. The silhouette of a lone figure in the distance. The peculiar silence that exists only when the world is considerably larger than you are.
Travel teaches you many things. Patience, for one. Humility, if you're fortunate and eventually, if you've spent enough time standing in front of mountains and oceans, it teaches you that some things simply refuse to fit within a frame.
An inconvenient truth for photographers.

These photographs were made over years of wandering. Some while searching for something, others while attempting to forget it. They were never intended to belong together, yet here they are, sharing the same horizon.
The 3:1 frame wasn't chosen so much as accepted. A compromise between what stood before me and what I knew would inevitably be left behind.

People appear from time to time, though only briefly. As all of us do.
The landscape, however, remains. It always does.

Take your time. The photographs are merely fragments. The rest belongs to your imagination.
